Beer shanks come in a variety of lengths from 1” to over 8”. For a refrigerator based home kegerator conversion, the ideal length is 4” to 5” long.

It’s always better to purchase a longer beer shank than you need because the shaft of the shank protrudes into your kegerator and a longer shank makes a better heat sink.

Our standard beer shanks are the industry standard chrome plated lead free brass. Unless you are dispensing highly acidic wine, chrome plated brass is the correct material for your beer shank. The brass conducts heat away from your beer faucet much faster than stainless steel, keeping your faucet nice and cool for a foam free pour.

We carry two types of beer shanks - shanks with welded on nipples and shanks with removeable nipples. One style is not any better than the other but some customers like the removeable nipples for ease of cleaning.

All of our beer shanks can be used with 3/16" ID or 1/4" ID beer line. We suggest you use 6' of 3/16" ID beer line for each faucet to help control foaming.

Mounting requires drilling a 7/8" hole through your fridge door or fridge side. We recommend mounting a piece of thin plywood that's at least 8" X 8" on the back side for added support. Refrigerator door liners are made of thin plastic and your liner may crack without the additional support.
